It has been about a month and a half since I decided to take a leave of absence from school to make my health and marriage a priority. I don't regret the decision. I've started sleeping better, have met my stand/move/exercise goals every day, and have been eating at home at least five days a week for the past month. It's made a noticeable difference in how I feel on a daily basis and I know that I have lost some weight as well. I don't know how much because I still refuse to step on a scale, but I know my clothes are fitting better and that's good enough for me.
Work has been busy - no surprise there. But, I will say that it has been a pretty good kind of busy, as far as these things go. I have had a bunch of half-days with grade level teams, with the sole purpose being increasing teaching confidence as we move forward with our district implementation of the NGSS. They've been overwhelming well received by teachers and I love the messages I get from them after the conclusion of our meeting. Below is one of my favorites:
This summer will feature a fair amount of work work, but also plenty of time to get away. Craig and I are celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary with a trip up to Victoria, British Columbia. We've never been before, so we're looking forward to the time away together. I'm also going to take a solo trip to Denmark for a three-day backpacking trek. I'll likely spend some extra time abroad, but I don't know exactly yet. I'm still looking for a buddy to go with me, but I'm not going to let that stop me from going. In the meantime, I'm going to go add "science queen" to my resume.
